What Can We Do with Noah?

pic_drawer_3q5umwUnless you live under a rock or do not have a Facebook, you know by now that there is a movie playing in theaters titled “Noah”. Hollywood, needless to say, wasn’t too concerned with accurately depicting the amazing biblical account about the great man of Faith Noah, and our all-powerful God. With all this discussion about the movie going on though, it got me thinking about the opportunities that have come up. No matter your age, everyone is going to come into contact with people who have seen, read about, or are curious about the movie. Whether the movie version is accurate the or not, Noah is part of the Bible and that means that people are talking about the Bible all around you. We’ve been given an opportunity to evangelize! The question is: how are you going to prepare for it?  Here are two suggestions:

KNOW the truth!
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.(2 Tim 2:15).Whether you have decided to see the movie or not, read through the account in Genesis again. Know it inside and out. Not only will this help us get to know our Bible more, but it will help us get the facts straight. The director of the movie even admitted that “Noah is the least biblical film ever made.” So, we need to be careful to not let the movie sway our beliefs or what the truth really is. If you saw the movie, test your knowledge. Try to list what was inaccurate in the movie. If you aren’t sure, figure it out. It is so important to know what we believe, know what the truth is, and never let Hollywood’s version of Biblical accounts get us confused with the truth of the Scriptures.

Be ready and willing to talk about it!
But sanctify the Lord Godin your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15). Your fellow students at school and even teachers will more than likely be talking about this movie. Your neighbors, friends and co-workers will be curious about it. This could be your opportunity to open up about the Bible. Tell them that you are excited that they are interested in the Bible. Show them the true account (Genesis 6-9). Maybe even read it with them. Their interest will surely be piqued after seeing the movie and hearing so much debate over it. They will probably be excited to talk to you about it. Don’t let this opportunity pass! Even if you have not seen the movie, you can still answer their questions about the true account. This might be one of the only times your friends or teachers will be openly talking about the Bible with you. Get ready and excited to talk about it with them!

The account of Noah in the Bible is one of the most awe-inspiring, convicting and interesting that you can read. It teaches us how God feels about sin.  It inspires us to have faith like Noah. It shows us how all-powerful and mighty God is, and how He cares for those who obey Him. What amazing lessons to share with our friends! So, know the truth and be excited to talk about it!
