From the moment we all realize as little girls that we all have the possibility to become whatever we want, our hearts and minds begin to swell with the possibilities. We imagine ourselves being doctors, veterinarians, mommies, teachers, artists, singers, and the list goes on and on. We focus hard on school work and choose colleges carefully because we all desire to just become something in this world. We want to belong. We want to make a difference, and we want to have identity.
Do you realize that the Gospel that we obey challenges us to become something even greater than the professions or lifestyles we all dream of obtaining? When we become Christians, and devote our lives to the spread of the Gospel, something amazing happens. We are given the opportunity and responsibility to speak the words of life into another’s heart. Do you ever sit back and try to comprehend how unimaginably privileged we are to be trusted with this ability?
You are the avenue of this transformation.
“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” Romans 10:14
Someone took the time to invest in your heart and share the Gospel with you so you could become something beautiful and new. Do you remember who this was? Maybe a parent, grandparent, sister, friend, work acquaintance, or even a stranger. Someone recognized your need to become something extraordinary, and shared with you the life giving Word. They became the avenue to the message of Christ, so that you would understand your calling, and your salvation. Have you realized this avenue is yours to lay down too?
Maybe you have found yourself in the life that you dreamed of as a little girl. Maybe you got to become that doctor, vet, nurse, wife, teacher, or mommy. Maybe you are still a teenager in High School, or a sophomore in college trying to figure out your place in this world. In whatever position you may find yourself in today, are you making Jesus the center of your story? Do people know that you have in fact become something? Do they see the difference between the way you choose to live and the way the world chooses to live? Do they see light? Do they feel the unsurprising peace you are able to display?
“What does it profit someone to gain the whole world and forfeit their soul?” Mark 8:36
I feel that most of us women get so bogged down in becoming “something” in this world, that we forget the simplicity, and urgency of what we have already become.
Your worth, your belonging, is in Jesus. You need to understand this and live this. In Christ, you have the power to change, grow, and be alive. We mustn’t hesitate to let the passion we feel as a Child of God push us to shine in the darkness.
Are you still living life trying to become something? If you are a Christian, you have already become something; an heir to the glory of God. What could we possibly need to be other than that? Know that you are enough, and will be enough, because He is enough, and He lives in you. You are something. You have purpose, and you have an identity, now go do something with it.
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news.” Romans 10:15
