Spiritual Perks of Social Media

pic_drawer_fswcogHave you ever had to travel across a continent by foot or boat? I don’t think any of us would be able to say we have. Paul’s journey, as described in the book of Acts, was a long, tough process filled with hardships, pain, and rejection that he went through for Jesus’ sake. Take a minute and think: what have you sacrificed for Jesus’ sake? You can see examples of Paul’s sufferings all through the book of Acts because he was teaching the gospel. What happens to us when we try and teach others about Jesus?

Almost every person in the United States has some sort of social media account. Think about how many people that is. Paul didn’t have the luxury to call up a friend and chat with him or her like we can now. How many people can we influence just by posting a picture of a bible verse? Or what if we sent a text message to some of our friends and asked them if they wanted to come to church with us? All of this could happen in seconds. We honestly have it so easy now. With how much time people spend on their social media site, think about how simple it would be to post something spiritually uplifting and have all of your friends, family, coworkers, etc. see it? I know for me, I get a second out of my busy day to read something that uplifts me and takes my focus back to Jesus.

I really encourage all of you lovely ladies to start spreading God’s word through social media. In Mark 16:15 Jesus says, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” Paul was not only emotionally hurt by people he tried to teach; he was physically hurt as well. Who cares if someone calls you a “Bible Thumper” or a “Jesus Freak”? I have been called both and I have learned that it doesn’t matter what people say to you, all that matters is what God thinks; if you are doing what He says and living for Him, you can’t help but spread His word. It is going to be hard at first, but once you practice and get more comfortable with teaching people about Him, you will feel so spiritually uplifted, I promise. But do not forget, not everyone will respond positively to what you say about Jesus. When that happens, all you can really do is pray for them. Always remember Whose team you’re on and who we are really trying to impress; it will make all the difference.

Here are some ideas for you to help aid you in evangelizing through social media.

  1. Send mass text messages to people in your contact list. It’s easy and who doesn’t keep their phone with them 24/7, right?
  2. Post a status on Facebook.
  3. My personal favorite: Type the Bible verse into your notes on your phone, screenshot it, and then post the picture onto Instagram.

Those are just a few of the ways to spread God’s word to our world. Remember, Jesus’ last command while he was here on Earth was to go and save the lost, and if people don’t have someone tell them about what Jesus did for us, how will they be saved?
